RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology using programmable labels, which has opened and continues to open the door to undreamt-of opportunities, has attracted the greatest attention and interest. A UHF frequency range (868-915 Mhz) is open to RFID world-wide, and the European standard permits scanning distances of up to 7 metres in some cases.

RFID primarily provides rational scanning of entire pallets and packages, mainly as part of goods reception and goods handling operations using various types of scanners and portals.

Studies carried out by Wal-Mart estimated the time saved on identifying and scanning goods delivered at 15 to 20 minutes per truck.
